Today in Japan, for the first time in the history, an academic conference was held using a personal internet video broadcasting service, "Nico-nico nama housou" (nico-nico real-time broadcasting). The Nico-nico nama housou" is very similar to ustream, but it have nicer commenting system than ustream; the comment flows inside the screen. So using this service, the speaker can get feedbacks from audience immediately and share opinions with audience easily. The audience can view the conference for free online, it's nice for employee or student lived in far places.
The conference was targeting ordinary people as it's audience, therefore it was rather informal. In fact it seems like a talk show just showing the researchers previous work not a state-of-art research. However I felt great possibility in conference broadcasting. It is a great opportunity to exhibit the researcher's work in public and get a feedback. The broadcasting can also increase the visibility of the laboratory.
Two of my past researches was presented by my adviser today. Many audiences commented like "Awesome works!!" for my research. So I feel greatly motivated.
